The Marble Arch Barbecues

Another chain of low-cost restaurants-the Marble Arch Barbecues-deserve special mention, because they have taken hold with a vengeance in London, and they offer good value. Imitating the rapidly-increasing "flame steak" houses of the United States ("Tad's" is the most prominent example), the Marble Arch restaurants concentrate on a mass-produced steak dinner-a charcoal-broiled "double steak," with french fried potatoes.

They also serve a quarter of a fried chicken, with french fries or potato salad, or a "Yankee dinner" (hamburger steak with fried egg, french fries and salad). While, obviously, you didn't travel 2500 miles to eat hamburgers and fried chicken, these meals will provide a good, occasional respite from British fare, at dirt-cheap prices.

The most centrally-located Marble Arch Barbecue is on the movie-houses-filled Leicester Square, just two short blocks from Piccadilly Circus. Other Marble Areh Barbecues are seattered throughout the city.
